David Van Valen

Assistant Professor of Biology and Biological Engineering

Dr. David Van Valen is an Assistant Professor of Biology and Biological Engineering at the California Institute of Technology. He completed a B.S. in Math and Physics at MIT, MD at UCLA, PhD in Applied Physics with Rob Phillips at Caltech, and a Postdoctoral Fellowship with Markus Covert at Stanford. Dr. Van Valen also is part of the inaugural class of HHMI Freeman Hrabowski Scholars. His research group at Caltech leverages the latest advances in imaging, machine learning, and genomics to measure the interactions between viruses and their hosts.
